All the world’s a stage for Alyssa Brewer, our new Lifestyle Director. Her love of theater — coupled with a passion for event planning — promises to make each of the 75+ events a year Cross Creek Ranch hosts memorable occasions.
The Texas native said she was an artsy kid whose passion for performing led her to pursue a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Musical Theatre at the Santa Fe University of Art and Design.
“My mom put me in dance lessons as soon as I could walk, and I fell in love with it,” Alyssa said. “This led me to perform in plays and musicals, sing in my church choir, and become the captain of my high school dance team. With dancing, singing and acting being a large part of my life, it made sense to continue pursuing these passions in college.”
That passion led to another when she needed a little extra spending money.
“In college, I was given the opportunity to work part-time with an event planning company called High Desert Event Planning where I worked as an assistant coordinator helping with corporate retreats,” she said. “This involved planning and executing conferences as well as fun activities for these groups to participate in near Santa Fe. It was an amazing experience!”
After moving back to her home state of Texas, Alyssa gained more experience planning weddings, non-profit events, and community events. Most recently, she was the Special Events Coordinator for the new American Furniture Warehouse stores in Texas. In that position, she developed relationships with the Katy and Fulshear communities.
The parallels with her love of theatre allowed this new career in events to become her passion. For her, events are really shows but on a larger scale.
“Both events and theatre productions involve lots of people working together and have an end goal of entertaining their audiences,” Alyssa said. “Theatre productions have the actors front and center, which is similar to your customer-facing vendors at an event, but they also have technical people working behind the scenes raising and lowering the curtain, moving spotlights and making sure that everything runs smoothly. This also happens at events.”
Alyssa can’t wait to continue the lifestyle program at Cross Creek Ranch.
“All event planning starts with identifying the purpose of the event,” she said. “Is it to bring people together? Is it to celebrate a holiday? Is it to raise money for a great cause? Once you figure that out, the fun of building the event begins! I like to start with the experience that I want the attendees to have. What will they see? What will they eat? What will they post on their social media from the event? “
Alyssa said her favorite part of event planning is working with vendors to make those experiences happen. Once they are secured, she moves on to logistics. After that, it’s time to execute the event.
“It’s an amazing feeling to see everyone’s hard work pay off on the day of the event,” she said.
Her favorite events are those that bring families together. It puts her creativity to the test. For her, if the event is successful, attendees will have memories that last a lifetime.
“I plan to use resident events to prove that Cross Creek Ranch is the absolute best community to live in,” she said. “My goal is to highlight all of its amenities and encourage residents to come out and meet their neighbors while taking advantage of everything this ‘Naturehood’ has to offer. I also look forward to chatting with the residents to see what events they would like to see on their calendars in the future! I love new ideas!”
Alyssa recently married her high school sweetheart, Kai, and together they adopted an energetic Border Collie/Lab mix, Percy. When the three of them are not snuggled up reading a great book or re-watching Parks and Recreation for the millionth time, Alyssa enjoys crafting, catching a show in Houston’s Theatre District (her current favorite musical is Moulin Rouge), playing trivia and spending time with her friends and family.
Alyssa wants residents and future residents to know that she is thrilled to be part of the Cross Creek Ranch community.
“I am so honored to be here, and I absolutely adore my job,” Alyssa said. “This is an amazing community, and I am looking forward to filling their calendars with fun, enriching events!”
