The most important move a parent can make is to a community zoned to top-ranked schools. Many of our students attend Tompkins High School, which ranked among the top 10 public high schools in Texas according to education data site Niche.com.
The Katy ISD high school scored the No. 6 place on Niche’s report listing the top 25 public high schools in the Houston area. The site also ranked Tompkins an impressive No. 19 out of 1,624 public high schools in the state.
Schools were ranked based on an analysis of test scores, college data and student and academic life data from the U.S. Department of Education.
Each high school was given an overall grade compiled from six categories: academics, teachers, clubs and activities, diversity, college prep, and health and safety. Academics carried the most weight of the categories, accounting for 60 percent of the total weighted average. Categories like clubs and activities and health and safety were given less weight with just 2.5 percent toward the total average.
The ranking comes on the heels of Tompkins being named one of the best high schools in the nation by U.S. News & World Report. The school ranked No. 95 in Texas on the prestigious list, earning a coveted silver medal based on student performance on state-required tests and how well they are prepared for college.
We congratulate the students, faculty and staff at Tompkins. You really made the grade!
