Construction has begun on the long-awaited extension of the Westpark Tollway that will — among other things — help speed Cross Creek Ranch residents to their destinations.
The expansion, to be completed in two phases, will widen the existing two-lane, undivided road into a four-way, divided highway. The current four-lane controlled access tollway will be extended to the west from where it currently ends at the Grand Parkway to just west of Spring Green.
The first phase will extend the four-lane tollway two miles and widen FM 1093 west to FM 1463, east of Cross Creek Ranch. In addition, one-way, two-lane frontage roads will be constructed both north and south of the Westpark expansion. Both expansions will be free of tolls. The extended toll lanes will terminate and tie into the non-toll frontage roads west of the FM 723 intersection.
Phase two of the project, slated to get underway by the end of 2016, will widen FM 1093 farther west, through Fulshear and out to James Lane. From this point, the four-lanes of divided frontage roads will continue west through the intersection of Westheimer Lakes North Drive and then taper into the existing two-lane road immediately east of the FM 1463/FM 359 intersection.
The first phase is expected to open in September of 2017, while phase two is anticipated to open in 2018. A future third phase that would extend the tollway several miles further is currently under consideration.
Cross Creek Ranch is located just a few miles from the end of the tollway. The completion of phases one and two will provide easy access to FM 1463, FM 359 and the Grand Parkway, allowing residents to quickly hop onto Interstate 10 and U.S. 59.
